Dad believes in the old 80/20 rule. You know, getting 80% of the desired results with the first 20% of the effort. I talked him into letting me share with you his big three 80/20 tips for better pooch pics...

1. Move in closer. Pet photos are rarely improved by including a big tree or the whole yard. Getting close will remove those distractions and show much better detail. Note: many dogs think a camera is something you are bringing to them as a new toy, so be patient while Rover settles down.

2. Get down. Kneel, crouch, lie down, do whatever it takes. Show your pet how he looks in his world, not how he looks from yours.

3. Avoid the 'bulls-eye' syndrome. Move the main focus point (usually the eyes) away from the dead center of the frame. After focusing, recompose. This combined with #'s 1 and 2 will make a huge improvement to the quality of every photo.

This list could have been 10 tips or more but phooey on that. If you make a habit of these 3 and are ready for more, email me. By the way, these tips work great on kids, too!
