We had some bad luck over our field and we lost it in the Ohio River. Now we have a new MXL Sport and are waiting for some good weather. Keep your eyes to the skies. We have to because of darn C130. Good luck and just remember if you can walk away it was a good landing.

Comments: I am a teenager who has been interested in fly for several years. Last year my grandfather bought an UltraLight, and introduced me to it. Over the summer, I took lessons from an instructor at the airfield in Louisiana (in Louisiana, you have to have a license to fly an ultralight). I was about to get my license, but I had to go home to Knoxville, summer was over. I've always wanted to fly, and an ultralight seemed to be my means of doing so. Here in Knoxville, no license is needed, so maybe when I can get enough money, and somehow get permission from my parents, then I will too be flying ultralights. I really enjoyed your webpage. I came to it not expecting to read much, but ended up reading the whole thing. Thanks for 30 min. of my time well spent.

I have had a similar experience with building and flying a KOLB Firestar and later a Challenger II. Comments: It has been years since I first saw an ultralight fly. A friend of an inlaw brought one down for a hunting weekend. Looking at it was neat, but hearing it fire up at dawn, and seeing it come flying over the tree tops was something else. I had almost forgotten that it had impressed me so much, being fifteen years ago. Then, looking was enough; But now I want one, bad. I live in town now, but have friends and relatives in the country. I have no idea what these machines cost, or what the cost of operating one would be. Are there any FAA rules and regulations that have to be met? I agree, this is a site that does ultralights supreme justice. Just wish I had one already.

Comments: Excellent adventure! I loved the contour flying part--something I would love to do on a regular basis, and something about flying at the treetops that has always intrigued me! In fact, I was able to go up in an ultralight in Key West... took off from the water and flew at about 200 ft. It was amazing! At one point, we dropped to about 10 ft. off the water in about 5 seconds, and buzzed a whole flock of waterbirds. They took off in a thousand directions all around us, and I thought I was right in the middle of one of those adventure safaris you see on t.v. Hopefully one day I can do my own adventure safari! Thanks for the inspiration!

Comments: Nice, tasteful, well-photographed description of the experience! I, too, have lived the UL experience and will never forget it as long as I live. Never a "real" pilot, the thrill of learning to fly my Eagle UL (for me at least) was no less exciting. My solo liftoff was just before sunset the old Army Air Corps base at Scribner, NE. As exciting as the birth of my children was, I think the adrenalin rush during that flight was a tiny bit more intense. Another memory I'll never forget was when I carted my bird to Oshkosh on top of my '84 Honda Civic. A neat bond that only a few very lucky people share.

Comments: Wow! I was told about your site at a meeting of our UL club, I did'nt expect such a delight. From now on, when someone says "Whats it like?" I'll refer them to this site instead of bumbling along trying to explain why I would drive 72 miles up to our field only to get rained out, but still return home happy. Thanks, and best wishes for your future flying.

I have been thinking of getting into the sport for quite some time now and have been looking for info on the net. Finally a site that actually talks about the buzz of it and presented in a way it is meant to be seen by outsiders and hopefully soon an insider.

Comments: Thanks for sharing with us. Learned about your site on the UL email list. I've been looking for a way to explain UL flying to the unwashed masses. You've done it for me. And I wish I could add my own 18 yr old's name (Emily) to your dedication. I'm going to share your site with her when I can get her to stay home long enough to do so. And Merry Christmas to you and yours. -- Don

Comments: Jim, What can I say? Your site made my day. You have captured all the best about flying "low and slow." I try to tell people that only a part (of course it's the best part) of flying ultralights is flying. It is also about the culture and people. Some of the very best people I know I met through flying. Your site has captured so much of the "life." I am sorry that you are not still flying. Your friends are missing you.

Comments: Jim, this is a really wonderful site and story. You've really captured the joy of the sport, as I understand it from those I'm talking to as I prepare to join the fraternity myself. I especially liked the dedication, as I have one of those treasured "pies" myself. I hope you can find that next airplane that has your name on it. Thanks for the ride.

This site flows like a river; the content is beautifully mananged. The visitor comes away with a real, honest depth of understanding of the sport and your experiences and love. Executed throughout with exorbitant amounts of technical skill, art and imagination. Bravo Jim!

Comments: I have discovered that building a web site is a lot like building an ultralight. You proceed, step by step, hour after hour, day after day, until done... then hopefully you have something that flies.
