You've convinced me that I too must follow my dreams of building a plane (I'm a licensed pilot). Also great to see that you're flying a South African made machine now. Comments: Stumbled accross this website when for some reason I searched for ultralights. What a blast from the past. I too had an MX that I flew for a few years in the early 80s. In 1980 at the age of 22 I was taking flying lessons. Frustrated at the cost and unavailability of rental aircraft, my father and I read up on Ultralights and found a used MX in nearby Xenia, Ohio. Purchasing this slightly used unit for $3500. we were set. My father had his private pilot ticket(hardly ever used) since the late 40' and I had soloed a 150 a few times so we put it together and hit the throttle. We hangered with a Kolb Ultrastar and 2 eagles at a nearby farm. A couple of summers that I will never forget. I got married in 1985 and the Ultralight was sold to a fellow in Ada, Ohio. Now at age 42, I look back with disbelief that my life was actually this cool. Maybe...some day again.

This plane has about 10 hours on--supposedly came from San Diego where a Dr.'s wife would not let him fly it--has been folded down for 14 years. I flew one for 7 years from 1983 to 1991. I would like to hear from anyone who has flown an Eagle. They are one of the safest planes I know of as long as you use a little common sense and stay out of the wind. It was a terrific spiritual experience to be up there with the birds. I have been consumed with the thought of flight since my first flight to see my grandparents in Tulsa, OK on Southwest Airlines (6yrs old). I took a fam flight in an Ultralight a few years back and relized the awesome freedom and simplicity involved with "ULs". I have decided to pursue this ultimate freedom with the upcoming purchase of an aluminum skinned UL from Canada. Thank you for the inspiring story, and hope to see all these wonderful UL aviators in the sky someday!

My new home has a driveway equal to the wingspan of my Spyder. My runway is a dirt road in front of my home. My hanger cost $1,000.00. My neighbors are all pilots. The FBO is my beautiful girlfriend. My airport cafe is my kitchen. Annual inspections are located at my toolbox. My favorite music is my Powerfin Prop. My instrument panel cost $1,200.00 and has everything a Cessna has. My home is in the air. Life is better now.

Comments: Jim,
OUTSTANDING web site. EXCELLENT photos and SUPERB presentation. Definitely one of the best on the web. I have to say that we must share a lot of the same passions, though I have yet to take the leap into flight. I grew up being fascinated by flight having a brother that flew rotor-wing in the Marine Corps. I followed my bros footsteps and joined the Corps and was on my way to fulfilling my own dream, until life's details put it's finger on my tail in the form of the Gulf War. A lot of my passion for flight has dwindled over the years(although I still run outside everytime an unusual drone or rumble catches my ear), but your web-site has rekindled a spark as well as made me realize that my goals are still attainable!
Outstanding job,
Chris

My UL research brought me to your page (read your trike page too), and you have done such a great job of documenting all your experiences. Thanks for sharing them. I live within an hour either way of a Trike traing center and a fixed wing training center. I think I'll do an intro flight with both now, however I'm leaning toward the fixed wing. An Ultralight is definatly in my future. With a barn for hangering, and 400ft of smooth open feid at my cottage, I'd be stupid not to learn. Thanks for the incentive!!!

You start her up, and take flight, and Time stands still! I too have longed for this, since the first time I was taken up in a cessna. This is a very fine web site, informative, colorfull, with every thing I need to compliment my day. My congratulations to the fine people that put together this innovative site together. This site is for us, the,Ultralight pilot, as the Lighthouse is for the boats at sea.
I will take the opportunity to say Hi, to all lovers of flying. If you still thinking to make the step, go for it!, because I wait 32 years to own my Challenger II, till I told to my self, Is now or never.
Recently I moved from Connecticut to Durham, North Carolina, and I'm looking to meet friend with the same passion for flying as I have.
One month has passed already, and no ultralight entushiast around here to be my wingman to fly all aroung the Carolinas. Please if some one will like to be in touch with me, please fell free to
e-mail me. I will be more than happy to reply back. I'm almost close to turn crazy, when you can't share all the nices things of flying ultralights,
To everyone, have a great day and grat flying too.

Well I'm so pleased to see you finally joined the trike squadron, I have been demoing the Raven and other British trikes for years at Oshkosh 1986 in fact and Sun n fun and I knew they would one day take hold here to as they have back home in the UK. I look forward to flying with you someday and as a photographer in a previous life your new trike site has again shown your superb ability as a fellow "gentleman of the lens".
Someone said you should write a book and I fully agree. I have just written the only book on trikes alone called Trikes, the flex wing flyers and I was told for the longest time to do it but never did until my co-author Hal persuaded me to just do it. You sir should also.. just do it. Your photos are so beautiful it would grace the finest coffee table with ease and your mastery of the pen will go hand in hand with those images.

Comments: I really loved your site. nobody understands ultraalights until you try it. Once you do you're hooked. I flew with my brother-in-law when I was younger and I absolutely ate it up. I'm 24 now and by God's grace I am in the process of learning to fly again. If everybody knew how great it was they would'nt put us down and say we're not real pilot's. If you ever need somebody to fly with e-mail or write and I'll fly up there. I am always up for a little cross country. thank's and be safe.

Comments: What a great site. You get started in the journal and can't stop till you are done. Great pictures and story.
I have been flying for 26 yrs and just got involved in Ultralights a couple of years ago when my wife and I bought a Zenair (I know not your Idea of an ultralight but it is one up here). Now I try and fly in whatever I can. I have been instructing and put around 450hrs in 1 1/2 yrs. I LOVE IT. I have even gotten almost ten hours in powered parachutes.
It is a great sport and more fun than I can describe.
Glad to see you are back at it.

Comments: You said it all about Ultralight flying. I have been a pilot (SEL) for 15 years and always said "those people are crazy". 2 years ago I brought a Quicksilver MX and I love it. I have not flown FAA reg. aircraft since.
